DIY kits and treatments for silverfish do little to eradicate an infestation of these silvery critters. Home remedies such as cinnamon only leave a mess. Usually brought into the home in boxes, through holes in porch screens, or other containers, it takes a pest control expert to get rid of these bugs for good.

Silverfish can be quite destructive. They enjoy living in dark, moist areas such as basements, attics, cabinets, kitchens, and bathrooms. They love to eat paper and damp clothes. You might also find them munching on cardboard in the garage or shed. Surprisingly, they also eat the glue out of book bindings, shampoo bottles, silk, and other dead insects. Leaving dirty dishes out may also attract silverfish, as they love carbs, too.

Beyond damaging your property, silverfish also cause allergies in people and pets. They are also preyed on by other critters, so having them in your home may attract more bugs. Total Pest Solutions, LLC knows the issues these pests can cause and will help clear them from your home.

How to recognize a silverfish:

Silverfish are nocturnal insects typically 13-25 mm (0.5-1.0 in) long. Their abdomens taper at the end, giving them a fish-like appearance. Silverfish are completely wingless. They have long antennae, and move in a wiggling motion that resembles the movement of a fish. This, coupled with their appearance and silvery scales, inspires their common name. Silverfish typically live for two to eight years.
